Find out why diets are history! | Print |  E-mail

Dr John Briffa’s latest book, The True You Diet, slaughters not one, but a whole herd of nutritional sacred cows, as it reveals that the truth about healthy eating is to be found, not in the latest diet or ‘superfood’, but in our evolutionary past.

"Diets fail because they take a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach and it’s time we understood the importance of discovering and eating in accordance with our individual nutritional needs,” explains Dr Briffa. “Only through understanding the diet that sustained us during most of our evolution can we hope to understand what it truly means to eat a healthy diet, and that one person’s meat can be another’s poison.”

According to Dr Briffa, differences in environment and food availability made our ancestors adopt different diets. There were those who had a diet rich in animal foods - who are referred to in the book as ‘hunters’, those who ate predominantly plant foods - the ‘gatherers’, and those who became adapted to something in-between - the ‘hunter-gatherers’.

The True You Diet uses scientific evidence to show that these ‘types’ exist today, and why this is so important in determining an individual ‘ideal diet’.

In The True You Diet you will find:

• evidence for differences in our physiological make-up that mark us out as either 'hunters', 'gatherers' or 'hunter-gatherers'

• a specially designed questionnaire that you can use to determine which of these types you are, and what your ideal diet is

• information and advice on the common reasons why diets fail, and how to combat them

• a wealth of practical advice and support, including type-specific recipes, to ensure your long-term success

The True You Diet uses up-to-date research to explode and de-bunk a range of dietary myths including the notions that low-fat diets and 'calorie counting' are effective for  weight loss, vegetarian diets are healthier than more omnivorous ones, and an individual's ideal diet is determined by their blood group.
